Dave Strider Turntable Tutorial by deerlette Dave Strider Turntable Tutorial by deerlette
Holy shit. That file is fucking massive. Holy god.
I'm so sorry.
Really.
But not really because this is the best tutorial.
But yeah! That's EVERYTHING you need to know about that.

LEAVE ME QUESTIONS IF YOU /MUST!/

turntable designs belong originally to Hussie dsahkdjhak

*******THE BIGGEST EDIT OF LIFE
i don't even care
i fixed y'alls dumb problems that weren't even a real problem you guys are so smart why.

anyway, i put it off for too long because that file is a terror to open.
SO
THERE IT IS
EDITTED
AS
STUPIDLY
AS
POSSIBLE
and it is so perfectly hideous that i will look away now.
i will never touch this file again.
you're welcome.

Would it still be durable if you have to use cardboard?

As long as it's corrugated it would probably still be v durable. The only problem is you will have to find a way to overcome the ridges that corrugated cardboard makes!

using an actual record is 8etter and way more authentic. tho a 8it heavier, still looks a LOT 8etter and is actually really cheap too.
:D 8ut those still look cool :D

So, I'm on the first gear thing, and I just finished xactoing the notches. The cuts are not smooth enough for my liking, is there any ways to make them smoother?

:icondeerlette:
deerlette Featured By Owner Jan 10, 2015  Student General Artist
Definitely! Run and get yourself a couple pieces of sandpaper :0! I'd start with a rougher sandpaper first and then a finer one. Then just sand the edges until they are smooth enough for your liking :0!!!

One last question! Since I don't have any spray paint, and I can't get any, what else could I use to paint my timetables?

What if you are cheap and using either styrofoam borads like the thik styrofoam not foam boards of  poster borad would it still work and if so how would you recomend it
Reply
:icondeerlette:
deerlette Featured By Owner Jul 25, 2014  Student General Artist
hmmmmm, i think that, structurally, it would be fine and that it would work, however styrofoam has a weird visual texture. I don't think it would look nearly as clean as the foam board route! That being said you could always figure out a way to smooth the surface...

but yeah! It could definitely work! IT just might not look as nicely done :0!!

Just at a record store near my university! I'm sure you could find a record or music store near you... if not, the records on amazon/ebay can be pretty cheap too if you look hard enough ^^ hope that helps

gahhh thank The Lord jegus I found this! I've been looking for an easy to follow guide on Dave's TurnTables for my Cosplay.
Just one question, when using records, should you glue the records down or no?

I definitely would secure them to the gears in some fashion! Whether you use glue, spray mount, or whatever. Otherwise they'll move around a lot and be a hassle to carry around at cons and meetups

I've always seen a ton of people make theirs with thick foam sheets, which was my plan... until I couldn't find any anywhere ._. And then I stumbled upon this. Why didn't I think of foam poster board? Awesome tutorial! My problems are solved :D Thanks.

Unfortunately I have a broken arm at the moment, not to mention I don't take prop commissions! Sorry, but I'm sure you can find a cosplay prop commissioner somewhere! Maybe on cosplay.com or in some forum :0

I use a lot of x-acto knives to box cutters and so I read the x-acto part like 'ah yeah no biggie'.
I FREAKING SLICED MY FINGER PRETTY DAMN GOOD
I was so mad I had to lay down
Actually it was because there was so much blood I almost fainted
